The Five Pillars of Islam

A concise reminder of the pillars that structure a Muslim’s life, grounded in the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

1) Shahādah (Testimony of Faith)

To bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

2) Salah (Prayer)

Establishing the five daily prayers on time with humility and presence of heart, as a direct connection between the servant and the Lord.

3) Zakāh (Obligatory Alms)

Purifying one’s wealth by giving the prescribed alms to eligible recipients, uplifting the needy and strengthening the ummah.

4) Sawm (Fasting in Ramadaan)

Fasting from dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadaan, cultivating taqwa (God-consciousness), patience and gratitude.

5) Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are able, symbolising unity, submission and remembrance of Allah.
